As of this point, I have researched Renewable Energy, The Decline of the Stock Market, AIG and the Fall of their Empire. I have found that all of these topics are related to each other in one way or another. At this point in time, the AIG crisis and the increase in renewable energy research is all directly liked to the decline in the stock market. Companies and the federal government in the area are trying to recover the points that the market has lost, mainly the 777 points the Dow Jones Industrial dropped in one days time.
I have tried to focus on all of my topics for the same amount of time, but I have found that I am more interested in the down fall of AIG rather than the other two topics. Yet, as an attempt to rebound in the corporate world, AIG has decided to sell its shares in renewable energy. Thus, my primary focus on AIG has lead me to believe that I will be able to learn about my other two topics.
As of this point, I have learned that AIG and other companies in the same field have fallen, and now i am researching the hows? and whys?. For example, how is it possible for a multi-trillion dollar company to one day default in one catastrophic blow. This topic is one that i find very interesting and i think that this will be the one that I pursue.
The decline in the stock market was another topic that I was interested in. But I quickly found out that this topic is extremely broad. The decline didn’t just take place for one reason in-particular, but it was the combination of many factors. The market is one of those few established things that is run by the people, not a CEO or a president. It is affected by those CEOs and presidents and the companies that they work for, but it is also the result of the decisions of the people who are sitting at home in front of a computer, buy and selling stocks all day long. It is also the result of the traders on the floor who are also buying and selling. Thus the result of the decline in the markets is a jumble of reasons, and i think that it is a little to broad of a topic for me.
The other topic that I have researched is Renewable Energy. I have learned about many new inventions, including generators that are strung on kites and are 10,000 feet in the sky. Also, I have learned that this new surge in renewable energy research is the result of companies, who have lost a lot of money in the stock market and are choosing it invest in renewable energy rather that oil.
Thus, I feel that my topic should be about the fall of AIG, because I will be able to cover all of these topics during my research.
